Lisa Whelchel: It’s a present on MeTV community, and I journey the nation discovering individuals who have actually wonderful collections, and we profile a few of their items. They normally have tens of hundreds of items, so we decide the highest 10 and discuss them, as a result of each bit usually has a very fascinating story behind them—how they received it, how a lot it’s price, what makes it collectible. But my favourite half is listening to the tales in regards to the collectors.

Typically, their collections began in childhood and it’s a strategy to maintain on to some facet of their childhood. I feel on the identical time, viewers keep in mind issues from their very own childhood. That’s a feel-good mind-set and it’s one thing we will actually profit from extra today.

LW: I’m a life coach primarily now. I began that about three years in the past after my children flew the nest. I received licensed as a life coach as a result of I’m simply fascinated by folks, and what makes them tick, and their tales. This present offers me that as a result of collectors are a number of the most fascinating folks on this planet and so they have a number of the greatest tales.

CS: Are you a collector? If not, what would you accumulate for those who determined to start out a set?

LW: I’m not a collector; I’m far more of a purger. I’m a kind of weirdos who likes to maneuver as a result of I wish to undergo issues and simplify and pare down. I’m not a collector. I assume I’m residing vicariously by every of the collectors. If I used to be a collector, I’d most likely save a number of issues from my profession.

LW: We did a present this season of Charlotte Rae’s memorabilia. Charlotte handed away, she performed Mrs. Garrett on The Facts of Life. Her son reached out to the opposite actors on the present and mentioned he had a few of her memorabilia. He requested if we’d be serious about a number of the duplicates.

It was an actual deal with for me, as a result of having labored along with her for a decade, and having identified her for years, I feel I discovered extra about her simply filming that present. I discovered about her life earlier than she was on The Facts of Life. She had an illustrious profession, and most of the memorabilia was from that.

One merchandise of hers that caught out essentially the most was her Molly the Mail Lady hat. I didn’t know she was a semi-regular on Sesame Street. She was Molly the Mail Lady and she or he had her hat from that present. So, it introduced me again to my very own childhood.

CS: What was essentially the most stunning merchandise you’ve seen on the present?

LW: I’d need to say the merchandise that epitomizes the individuality of collectors and collectibles that caught my eye is a gentleman who collected hair from presidents. He had a lock of hair from George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, John Kennedy, Martha Washington.

That’s simply creepy and engaging. One of the phrases I’ve discovered is it’s vital so as to add the provenance for every merchandise–the certificates of authentication–and he had it.
