Fans mourn as legendary danseuse Amala Shankar passes away at 101: 'End Of An Era'

Legendary danseuse Amala Shankar passes away& 

Renowned danseuse Amala Shankar breathed her final in Kolkata. She was 101 years previous. She was the spouse of legendary Indian dancer and choreographer Uday Shankar. Amala Shankar was born in 1919 in Jessore (present-day Bangladesh) to a service provider household. She met Uday Shankar, her then guru and future husband, in 1930 in France. 

She met him for the primary time on the age of 11 when she accompanied her father Akshay Nady to the International Colonial Exhibition in Paris. Amala’s first efficiency was staged in Belgium in 1931, the place she carried out as Jaliya in ‘Kaliya Daman.’ In 1939, when Amala was in Chennai together with her dance troupe, Uday proposed to her for marriage. The duo tied the knot in 1942. 

The couple had two youngsters Ananda and Mamata. Ananda is a reputed composer and dancer and Mamata is an actor and dancer. Amala had additionally acted in movies. She performed the lead position in Kalpana in 1948, which was created by Uday. The film was a few younger dancer’s goals of organising a dancer academy. Amala had additionally walked the crimson carpet on the Cannes Film Festival. 

Fans of the legendary dancer have paid tribute to her on social media. Twitter is crammed with condolences for the household. One Twitter consumer wrote, “End Of  An Era Legendary Dancer & Choreographer Srimati Amala Shankar Is No More With Us May Her Soul Rest In Peace #AmalaShankar”

Another fan wrote, “Saddened to hear about the passing away of legendary danseuse Amala Shankar. She was an inspiration for dancers across generations. An era has come to an end.”

The centenarian was awarded Banga Vibhushan by the Bengal authorities in 2011 for her contributions within the area of artwork. In 2012, she acquired Sangeet Natak Akademi Tagore Ratna award for her contribution to bounce.
