I have to just try to check myself all the time. There’s been whole seasons where, if there’s too much on-set drama going on, my mechanism is really just to check out… which is definitely frustrating for other actors.”

“At this particular moment, being engaged in the story, having some control over my storyline, and talking about things that are interesting, is kind of what helps,” Pompeo informed Shepard on the Armchair Expert podcast, noting the human trafficking and massive pharma storylines in season 16. 

“That’s the beauty of Grey’s and, at this juncture, retains me going,” she continued. “Because the show is such a monster, we have this enormous platform. We have some sort of leeway to talk about human trafficking, to talk about sexual assault, to talk about big pharma … I think it’s an important platform. So I try to stay in a place of gratitude.”
