new Delhi: Lieutenant General YK Joshi has been appointed because the commander of the strategically necessary Northern Command. The Northern Command takes care of the Jammu and Kashmir border with Pakistan and the general safety of Ladakh with China.

Lt Gen Joshi has in depth expertise in counter-terrorism operations in Kashmir. He will change Lieutenant General Ranbir Singh. Singh is retiring on 31 January. General Joshi is presently holding the post of Chief of Staff in Northern Command. Official sources mentioned that he’ll take over on February 1.
